Blowing white smoke, losing compression, and leaking oil. 14 years was a good run. Time to find a deal on a 60-80V battery powered unit on clearance, this time with powah wheels.

14 years is a good run! Would have lasted another two if you had painted it in a proper livery (I forget whom on oppo does that). I like the idea of electric mowers but the blades make a lot of the noise. Not having to deal with storing gas and oil would be a big plus. I use a 42" zero turn mower because I am super lazy and don’t want to spend more than 30 mins to mow and bag the grass.

McMike paints his decks.
Anyway, I can't wait to syphon the rest of the gas out it.

I went with the EGO when my old Toro died and it's been great. Only maintenance is sharpening the blade every so often.

I have the Ego 56V mower from home depot. I love it. Has all the power I’ll ever need, plastic deck so it won’t rust out, and battery life is about an hour.

Hmm... I think that might be the same B&S motor on mine, which is about that old and has started smoking recently...

You should do a teardown video showing
what finally gave up the ghost in that engine.

I’d say you got your money’s worth. I absolutely love my Ego. I didn’t even bother with self propelled. It’s so much lighter than a gas mower, it doesn’t even matter. Heck, most of the time my wife mows the lawn, before I even get a chance. She wouldn't tough the gas mower.

I've done that. Twice. But I don't want to push my luck because I've misplaced my fire extinguisher

Maybe. Definitely won't happen before the end unfortunately.

I've got a incline that takes up 75% of my backyard. Plus, I'm tired of not having propulsion.

I haven’t used a gas mower for about 12 years now. That’s partly because 12 years ago, I moved to a house with a small front and back yard.
So I use something similar to this for grass cutting:
And an electric trimmer for the edges.

I've seriously considered getting one of those. But it normally takes me 45 minutes to mow.

Yeah... if you have a larger yard, you wouldn’t normally want a manual push mower... unless you want to get a lot of extra exercise.

Makes sense then. My yard is flat.

Exercise was the main reason I got the push mower. And I'm ready for a new form of exercise.

My “Weedeater” 22" rear bagger (with I think the same engine as yours) is still going at 19 years. I replaced the coil and fuel tank last year, and have been keeping up with oil changes and proper winter storage. I thought I killed it two days ago when I decided to do one last cut of the year. I had set the cutting height really low as the grass is about to go dormant. On the second pass I pushed it over a particularly difficult grass/gutter transition when the blade struck the concrete gutter and the engine came almost to a dead stop but then got back up to speed again with a shudder and an annoying shaking. Dammit, I thought, I bent the crank.
After letting it sit for a half hour to cool down, I pulled the plug wire and tipped up the deck. I removed the blade and saw it was severely bent. Good sign. Fortunately, I had a spare new blade I had picked up last year and put it on. I spun it by hand and it seemed to be running true . I reconnected the plug wire and fired it up. Runs fine. I finished my cutting and put it away for now. I’ll use it one more time when the leaves fall. I use the bagging/mulching feature to get the leaves off the lawn. I’d rather do that than raking.
It looks similar to this one.

That looks similar to the one I got... and I think I got mine when I bought my first house in 2008. My wife does all of the mowing, so I think I’ll buck up for the electric one. (I’m supposed to do the trimming but the fuel lines rotted out a couple years ago, and I just haven’t fixed it)
I’ve replaced a few throttle cables for it and we just leave it outside with a tarp on it. We are the Hoosiers of our neighborhood.
